2008 Installation Managers’ Meeting

January 29 & 30 – Las Vegas, NV

Starnet conducted its third annual Installation Managers’ Meeting in Las Vegas on Tuesday, January 29 and Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at the Venetian Resort Hotel.

The two-day agenda featured informative presentations and demonstrations from product and supply manufacturers, including Armstrong Commercial Flooring, Johnsonite, Nora Systems, Inc., SelecTech, Inc., Dal-Tile, Ardex, Creative Edge Master Shop, and Seammaster Kool Glide System.

A roundtable discussion allowed union and non-union groups to separately share ideas for dealing with moisture and concrete issues, as well as floor preparation. The groups also discussed ways for getting installers into the pipeline and finding and keeping good workers. In addition, the roundtable offered participants the opportunity to explore incentive plans and determine what works best when creating job descriptions and separating responsibilities.

In a post-meeting evaluation, the 42 Starnet participants said they were “completely satisfied” with the two-day meeting and cited insights gained during the special Essentials of Coaching program as some of the most important information they drew from the event.

Next year’s Installation Managers’ Meeting promises to be just as successful, as the Starnet Training and Development Committee develops its agenda to include a full scope of topics—from products and processes, to HR issues, including leadership and communication skills.
