What Happened in Vegas Will Definitely NOT Stay in Vegas!
Starnet Members hit it big with business-growing tips and training.
Everyone was a winner at the 2009 Starnet Installation Managers’ Meeting in Las Vegas this past February. Twenty-eight lucky Installation Managers walked away with a wealth of winning ideas and knowledge for growing their businesses and reducing expenses. Attendees represented twenty Starnet Member companies from across the country.
The meeting, themed “Bright Ideas for a Profitable Maintenance Business,” touched on such varied topics as meeting environmental objectives, proper resilient, hardwood, concrete and rubber maintenance, and green cleaning products to address indoor air quality issues. There were also round table discussions, along with a group project, that got everyone connected and involved.
Returning for their fourth, IMM were Dwight Maurer of Commercial Flooring Systems, Mike Frankshun of M.E. Sabosik Associates and James Bissler from Texan Floor Service. What kept them coming back? Perhaps it was the up-to-date discussions addressing installation issues and new products. Maybe it was the sage advice about creating — and maintaining —relationships with other Starnet Members. (Who better to brainstorm with for fresh, exciting business ideas?) Could it have been the fun times shared with fellow Members? In reality, it was probably all of these things that made the Starnet IMMs so popular with Membership.
First-time attendees found the experience worthwhile as well. Joseph Wright, Operations Manager for Howard’s Rug Company, stated, “Thank you for a great and informative experience at the Installation Managers Meeting in Las Vegas. Many seminars of this kind can be slow and tiring. That certainly was not my experience here! Starnet kept everyone involved and active, with a well-organized, pertinent agenda, along with plenty of opportunities for participation. The top-notch facilities and food were an added bonus.”
Starnet’s Training and Development Committee would like to thank the Starnet Preferred Vendor Partners who conducted training seminars this year:
- Terry Fitzpatrick, Mannington
- Lee Eliseian, Independent Floor Testing and Inspection
- Lew Migliore, LGM Technical Carpet Services
- Mike Micalizzi, Mapei
- Steve Gentry, Mohawk
In addition to providing valuable, professional presentations, these Vendor Partners involved participants and created food for thought in subsequent round table discussions. As always, these wrap-up sessions were a huge hit with Members who walked away with great new ideas and twenty-seven new contacts! As one participant aptly noted, “there was a very good group of people at this meeting. I really enjoyed visiting and learning from them.” And from another, “the learning seminars were very informative. The “Concrete and Moisture” presentation and the “Effective Communication” talk given by Sam Allman were excellent. The most value, however, comes from the energy boost I get from being around my peers, with all of their great input.”
Kudos to the Training and Development Committee who put together this instructive and valuable meeting. Add that to a room full of savvy Starnet Members, and the result is SUCCESS!
