Starnet® Commercial Flooring Cooperative announces that its members doing business in south Texas now have the opportunity to take part in Tarkett Commercial Flooring’s ReUse™ Reclamation program. As part of Tarkett’s strategy to reduce its environmental impact, the company has begun an initiative called ReUse™. Tarkett will take back uninstalled installation waste and recycle the material into new flooring at its Houston manufacturing facility. Flooring contractors simply place all of the uninstalled waste into clear plastic bags provided by the company and return it to their Tarkett distributor. The distributor, in turn, will return the bags to the Houston facility for recycling, and, rather than making a special trip, these returns will be completed during typical flooring material pick-ups.

Sun Interiors Ltd., a commercial flooring contractor and Starnet® member affected by last year’s devastating hurricane season, received a grant as part of the “Smart Business Reboot” program earlier this year. The challenge-match program, which was launched by CDW Corporation and the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI), encourages companies around the nation to contribute to the Small Business Disaster Relief Fund. The Fund provides grants to help rebuild small businesses in the four states most affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita – Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Starnet® Commercial Flooring Cooperative announced its Sixth Annual Design Award recipients at its recent annual meeting in Palm Springs, CA. A Design Awards Grand Prize was given to Starnet member Sergenian's Floor Coverings headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, and known for years of experience in all phases of flooring projects, along with an extensive technical background. The winning project was the Overture Center for the Arts in Madison with architects and designers from Cesar Pelli & Associates and Potter Lawson & Flad Architects LLC. Flooring materials included those from Ardex Engineered Cement, Armstrong Commercial Flooring, Atlas Carpet Mills, Daltile, Johnsonite, Karastan Contract Carpets, Nora Rubber Flooring, Para-Chem, Roppe, Sponge-Cushion and W.W. Henry Company. The project also won in its individual category of hospitality/public space.

The series, which makes stops in 11 markets nationally this September and October, will cover how to avoid flooring failures due to moisture and concrete in commercial flooring installations. Respected industry leaders, Peter Craig, an independent concrete floor consultant with the firm Concrete Constructives, and Scott Tarr, a senior evaluation engineer with Construction Technology Laboratories, Inc., Skokie, IL, will conduct the two-hour presentations in each market.
