Description: The three challenges encountered in carpeting the Willis Avenue Bridge of the ING New York City Marathon were time constraints (i.e. Police closed the bridge at 5am, first marathon participants arrive around 9am, last runners cross bridge at 3:30pm, and police re-open the bridge to vehicular traffic at 6pm); logistics (i.e. seaming the carpet to create an 18-foot-wide swath, maneuvering and unrolling that onto the bridge to ensure a safe and even running surface); and design (i.e. matching the brand color of ING North America Insurance Company, the NYC Marathon’s title sponsor).
