Set on a grand stage at the Omni Orlando Resort at Champions Gate in Orlando, FL, INVISTA, maker of Antron® brand carpet fiber honored three Starnet Members during Starnet’s Design Award ceremony. The awards are the result of a joint partnership between Antron® and Starnet, recognizing the use of performance-driven carpet choices in commercial applications. Entries are judged on the project’s outcome to meet the clients’ aesthetics, performance and sustainability goals.
Presenting the awards from INVISTA was Stacy Dobbs, Antron® Dealer Development Manager.
First Place Winner
The First Place Winner was awarded to Master Craft Floors, Inc. for design of the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
Detroit Metropolitan Airport North Terminal
Starnet Member: Master Craft Floors, Inc.
Starnet Preferred Vendor: Mannington Commercial Carpet
Carpet: Deep Thoughts II constructed of Antron® Lumena solution dyed nylon
This busy airport serving a large metropolitan area needed carpet that would perform and have the longest possible life cycle replacement timeline. Results of a six-month performance test proved Antron® carpet fiber as superior in durability, cleanability and crush-resistance. The team selected Deep Thoughts II, a mid-range, medium contrast carpet pattern by Mannington for the installation.
“The Detroit Airport project was a true testament on why Antron® fiber makes a difference,” said Steve Spencer, retired State Farm Facilities Manager. “From the in-field testing of various carpets to prove the performance attributes to the harsh soil environments at one of the heaviest trafficked airports in America, this project was the clear winner.”
Second place was awarded to Acierno & Company, LLC, for work completed on Aspen Dental in Denver, CO.
Starnet Member: Acierno & Company, LLC Interior
Design Firm: Lynn Thom Architects
Starnet Preferred Vendor: Atlas Carpet Mills
Carpet Style: Livenza from Bellissimo Collection constructed with Antron® Lumena™ solution dyed nylon fiber
Aspen Dental required a chic update for its office in a very upscale neighborhood in Denver. The carpet’s classic woven appearance and sophisticated colorway works with the new paint color to unify the dramatic architectural forms with existing cabinetry laminates, hand-made dark wood millwork, and the hand-painted metallic accent walls.
“Modest budget and lifecycle cost analysis were the keys to the success in this project,” said James O’Neill, Founding Principal Inventure Design. “This project successfully balanced design, performance and budget considerations to meet the client’s design objectives.”
United States Naval Academy
Starnet Member: A&B Flooring Systems, Inc.
Carpet Mill: Mannington Commercial
Carpet Style: Soft Tread from Traction Avenue II Collection
The judges also honored A&B Flooring Systems, Inc. for their design of the United States Naval Academy Hall of Fame in Annapolis, MD. The team selected Soft Tread from the Traction Avenue Collection at Mannington Commercial, a high-performance carpet with a distinctly modern aesthetic for the highly visible Hall of Fame showcase hallways.
“This year there were so many great entries making it a challenge for the judging panel to select only two winners,” commented Lucy Nye, Manager Interiors MD Anderson. “Our judging panel awarded an honorable mention distinction to United States Naval Academy project for it compelling performance story in a high traffic area and a design that is distinctly Navy.”
